Women in Distress EmpowHER

A very special time at Flying Unicorn

You can help and here’s how. For each purchase that you make during the month of November, Flying Unicorn will donate 5% of the sales proceeds to Women in Distress. In addition, you can help by uploading your projects to the Flying Unicorn gallery. A donation of $1 will go to Women in Distress for each and every project that you upload to a maximum of $1,000.
If you would like to make a cash contribution to Women in Distress, Flying Unicorn is collecting donations on behalf of Women in Distress from November 1 through November 30, 2011. Your PAYPAL donation can be made by simply sending money to Please add WID In the note section. You can also mail a check, made payable to WOMAN IN DISTRESS, to:

New Creative Team Members

We're excited to announce some new Creative Team members over at The Flying Unicorn.
 Won't you welcome them too!

I am a SAHM to my 5 wonderful children and wife to my amazing high school sweetheart. I am a CertifieD Surgical Tech, but feel staying at home is priority for now. We live in a small farming community where there's not much to do (especially in the winter) but SCRAP!!!! I scrapbook to preserve memories for my children and theirs to come but I also scrap as a creative outlet for myself! My friends and family make fun of me because I see things differently than they do, I get inspired by surroundings and often wonder how I can scrap them or incorporate them into my crafting somehow, whether it be something that would make a great title or something that could be altered or sqeezed onto a layout. I have been seriously scrapbooking now for almost two years, although I have played with it since 1999 when my first child was born. I am now completely and hopelessly addicted......Long Live Paper, Glitter, and Glue!!!!

My name is Tabitha Triplett, I have a small photo studio in Corsicana, Texas. I have 3 teenage boys, and married to an amazing man. I have been scrapping since 1998 and I scrap all types of ways, I do digital, traditional, hybrid, and altered items. I am always looking for things to alter! I do not scrap chronologically, I scrap whatever photo speaks to me at the time. I am a night owl, so I scrap during the night hours most often. I have entire scrapbook studio at my house, and I am fortunate to have a best friend that scraps too.

My name is Dana Tatar and I am a stay-at-home mom. I have two daughters, Claire (5) and Scarlett (3). I married my high school sweetheart in 2003 and have been happy ever since. I graduated from MSU with a B.S. in Biochemistry and worked in that field for about 3 years before I gave birth to my first daughter and decided to stay home full time. I have had many hobbies over the years, but scrapping is the one that really gives me satisfaction. I started scrapbooking to preserve memories after the birth of my first daughter. I love to mix products from different collections on my layouts and I frequently find inspiration in music, poetry and pop culture. I love fussy cutting and flowers and both can be seen on the majority of my layouts. I would say that my dominant scrappy styles are clean and simple and pretty chic, but I do like to mix things up a bit, depending on the paper or photos I want to use. When I'm not scrapping, I enjoy cooking and baking, reading, listening to music and spending time outdoors with my family and basset hound.

Glue Caddy

I purchased one of Tracy Weinzapfel's Glue Caddies a few weeks ago and I just finished altering it.
I was inspired by Julie's alteration of her glue caddy. I basically followed the same steps that she did.

First I painted the edges in brown (not shown because I forgot to take a picture!)
Then I covered it all in white.

I added the paper to the top and sides. I used the Helmar Acid Free Glue, no buckling :)

Next I sanded some of the white off to show the brown paint (forgot that pic too)
and give it an aged look.
Then I added Helmar Crackle Medium (a two step process).  When that dried I rubbed distress ink into the cracks and wiped off the excess.  Acrylic sealer comes next!

Here's what it looks like with all my glues in it! I love it!

The "art" embellishment is canvas from Prima.
I painted it with pink and blue Shimerz paints then added some distress ink and adhered it with Scrap Dots.

I love Crackle!

I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love with Helmar Crackle!  I want to show you one of the altered items I used it on.  This is the "off the page" project from Flying Unicorn Kit of the Month for October.  The papers are from Prima's new Printery line.  These papers can be purchased at Flying Unicorn Store.

I covered the box with the Prima papers.
Added the 2 step Helmar Crackle.
Added some distressing ink to highlight the cracks.
Next, some flowers and waaa....laaaaa.....

Don't you just love how distessed and old this box looks?

What can I crackle next?
